State High School Referee Certification

This course is designed to present minor and major fouls in three ways: what they are, how and when to call them, and why to call them.

This class is designed for High School rules and applications and will use NISCA rules. This class covers the concepts presented in Water Polo Academy Minor Fouls and Major Fouls and is a 2 week ONLINE class. Students may access the class at any time of the day or night they wish.

Important course objectives:

  • Explaining the basic considerations required of the referee as part of the major foul decision-making
    Basics of the Advantage Rule
    The meaning of the major foul and the extra-player reward
    The procedural factors essential to the proper execution of the exclusion
    The differences between fouls of play, fouls of violence, and fouls of conduct
    The effect of the quality of the pass as a factor in referee decision-making
    The effect of suit grabbing

This course is designed for referees who will be officiating at the High School level in 2011 and follows NISCA rules. This course will satisfy the requirement for annual training for several High School Water Polo Associations. High School coaches are invited to audit this class at no charge.
